Professor Dr. Dr. hc (UA) Lothar Gellert

Born in 1957, Professor Dr. Dr. hc (UA) Lothar Gellert started his professional career as a lawyer in 1985.

From 1991 until 2005 and between 2007 and 2009, he worked within the German Ministry of Finance in different unit of the Customs Department as Deputy Head of Unit, dealing with the most subjects of customs law.

From 2005 until 2007 and from 2009 until 2011, Professor Gellert was seconded to the European Commission as German Seconded National Expert. During his secondment he dealt with issues of International Mutual Assistance in customs matters and with customs debt and guarantees, including drafting new provisions of the Implementing Provisions for the Modernized Customs Code.

Since 2011 Professor Gellert has worked at the Departmental Branch of Finance Administration within the Governmental University of Applied Administrative Sciences, teaching mainly customs law and customs tariff law.

Professor Gellert is a frequent speaker on different international customs conferences and has published articles on customs law in German, European and International Gazettes.
